You may use your adoption to promote an appropriate business or organization. It is wonderful exposure to families and beachgoers of your contribution to Sea Turtle conservation.

Nesting season is April 1 through Oct 31. Personalized Turtle Plaques will be placed on nests beginning in May. The handmade wooden plaques, crafted on site by a Park Ranger, are placed in the order received and as nests appear throughout the season. We anticipate that most plaques will be placed on the beach in late June through July. Your plaque will remain on your nest for an approximate 45 to 70-day gestation period.

All Sea Turtle Nest Sponsorship donations go the Park’s Citizen Support Organization, Friends of Cape Florida, Inc. to fund the ongoing Sea Turtle conservation programs at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

We will not honor ANY requests for specific locations. Sea turtles are wild animals. Where sea turtles nest is not within the scope of our Parks control. The plaques are made and placed on the beach once a week at the first suitable nest. Nesting is not uniform on Cape Florida. Attempts will not be made to place plaques on particular nests. You may see nests that do not have plaques in an area you like on our beach. These areas or nests may not be suitable for adoption or the park staff may have reason for not placing a plaque. Your adoption is symbolic. You are donating to support the turtle conservation program and to support ALL NESTS in Cape Florida. Please note, plaque space is limited to the number of nests made in any given season. Feel free to inquire with Park staff as to the current volume of nests and projected availability before donating.

Thank you! Best FISHes!

Haunted Hike at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park: Oct 19th & 20th, 2018

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is hosting its second Haunted Hike, on the evenings of October 19th and 20th, 2018. The event benefits the Friends of Cape Florida efforts on behalf of the park.

Organizers will set up the hike in an area with pavilions in the southwest corner of the park, on a back road that runs along Biscayne Bay, facing Stiltsville.

There will be a little kids’ area with a pumpkin patch, face painting and other non-spooky fun, while the hike will feature several scary scenes set up by local businesses and nonprofits for older kids, teens and adults.  There will also be food available for sale.

There will be a $10 fee to enter, and all minors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. There is no alcohol allowed, and parking is available in parking area D, between the lighthouse and view of Stiltsville, as well as throughout the park. The event will be wheelchair accessible, as it is on one of the park’s multiuse/bike paths.
